Michael J. Brown, 35, of Troy slammed into 47-year-old Christine "Chris" Elizabeth Woodward while attempting an illegal pass over double yellow lines on Route 6 on Feb. 11, 2023, according to the AG.

An investigation revealed that Brown was heading west in a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Sullivan Township on his way home from work at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Tioga County when the crash happened, the AG explained.

"In an attempt to pass a westbound vehicle in front of him, the defendant’s vehicle crossed double yellow lines and struck an oncoming vehicle that was ascending a hill on the roadway," as stated in the AG release.

Brown has been charged with a felony count of homicide by vehicle and five related summary traffic violations, the AG said and court records confirmed.

He turned himself into authorities on Monday, Aug. 21. His bail was set at $50,000 unsecured and his preliminary hearing is set before Magisterial District Judge John E. Hasay at noon on Sept. 20, according to his court docket.

The case will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney Anthony Forray.

“This case involves the devastating loss of a mother and teacher, made even more tragic because it was entirely preventable,” Attorney General Henry said. “We must all remember to practice patience and abide by the laws of the Vehicle Code because, otherwise, we are capable of causing irreparable harm. ”

Chris died at the scene from significant injuries, according to an earlier release by the Pennsylvania State Police.

She had been a school teacher at East Troy, WR Croman, and Intermediate Schools for 15 years; she taught in the "Troy School District for almost 15 years, the Elmira School District for 7 years, and the Philadelphia School District for 2 years," according to social media and her obituary

Chris was president of the Troy Trojan 3-point club, and was a volunteer coach with  Lady Trojan Basketball and Trojan Football, according to his obituary. She was also a member of Victory Church, as detailed in her obituary.

"Chris was a strong, kind, caring, and giving mother, sister, daughter, and friend with an infectious smile," as stated in her obituary.
